PETERBOROUGH, NH – NH Gym Rats organization held tryouts for AAU Boys and Girls Basketball on Sunday January 25th. “Our coaches and organizers know how important sports are for a child’s development. Our goal is to improve basic basketball skills, provide a safe environment and develop the entire player,” said Sean Ryan, Executive Director of the Greater Peterborough Chamber of Commerce and champion for this new program.
More the 100 children from age 7 to 16 attended the tryouts for divisions 10u through 16u boys and Grades 4th through 8th girls. “Not only did we have a great turnout, we also recruited a strong group of volunteer coaches,” said David Springfield, ConVal Physical Education teacher, Coach and founder of NH Gym Rats team. “Right now we’re putting teams together and assigning our coaches. We realize there may still be a few kids who couldn’t attend the tryouts. We ask that they contact us soon.”
“For some AAU organizations, the fees can be prohibitive. A portion of the cost goes to pay staff, however, Our entire staff is volunteer based,” said Ryan. “The rest of the fees are determined by the number of tournaments a team decides to attend, the uniform and AAU membership costs.”
“Despite our efforts to keep the costs down, some families find it difficult to bear this extra expense. We don’t want money to be the barrier, so we’re looking for sponsors to help subsidize costs for families who need it.”
If you are interested in becoming a sponsor please call Sean Ryan 603-370-1378.
